2010 and IT: Innovation and the Olympics with Justin Webb
Justin Webb was appointed Vice President, Olympic Services for Bell in April 2004. In this role, he carries a wide range of responsibilities associated with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and Bell’s involvement as Premier National Partner.
Justin leads a team of over 400 Bell specialists from across the country with a mandate of helping Vancouver 2010 deliver flawless Games. Every image seen on TV, every news story filed to the world, every real-time score transmitted - it will all traverse a network and communications solutions designed by Bell. And it is Justin’s team that will deliver these solutions: everything from voice, data, internet, cabling, portal, two way radio and mobility services for the world’s first all-IP Olympic Games.
The 2010 Winter Games also marks the first time in Olympic history than an Organizing Committee has outsourced its entire communications solution to a single provider, this being Bell. In his leadership role, Justin helped create a joint governance structure between Vancouver 2010 and Bell called the Olympic Technology Board to ensure that executive sponsors from both organizations can collaborate regularly, with trust and transparency, on key challenges and milestones.
Justin also manages the Bell 2010 Sustainability Program that ensures the benefits of Bell’s involvement remain long after 2010. Prior to his current position, he was the executive in charge of both technology and customer solutions for Bell in western Canada. In addition to his previous roles within the Bell family, Justin has worked for Sprint PCS, Nortel and ViAir, a company that specialized in data delivery via wireless internet technology.
Justin received a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering in 1988 from the University of Alberta. He is active in his community as a director of the North Shore Credit Union board in Vancouver, an on-going mentor at the UBC Sauder School of Business and as a member of the North Vancouver Outdoor School Advisory Committee.
