John C. Dvorak Outspoken and Uncensored!
Award winning columnist and podcaster John C. Dvorak brings his trademark style to ICE 2009, sharing the unique and insightful observations (rants?) about the rapidly changing computer industry that has made him a popular and entertaining commentator about IT for the last fifteen years. Through his many columns, best-selling books, radio programs, and appearances on national television and radio shows, John is known for cutting through the jargon and clarifying the complex computer world for every level of user. Graduating from the University of California with a B.A. in history and chemistry, John worked as a chemist and an air pollution inspector before becoming interested in computers.
In 1975, he returned to the university to learn computer programming, joining the microcomputer revolution in 1976 with the purchase of an early SOL computer. In 1978, he began a software company which specialized in the development and sale of microcomputer software. By 1980, the part-time business became a full time job. In addition, he began a popular newsletter, The Software Review. The popular gossip and news column moved from InfoWorld to PC Magazine to reach a larger, more advanced computer audience in 1985. John currently writes for a number of publications including: The Vancouver Sun, PC Computing, PC Magazine UK, and Microtimes. John is an on-air television columnist on the popular C/NET cable program, and hosts a weekly Public Radio interview radio show (Software/Hardtalk) broadcast to over 100 stations. John’s writings have appeared in Newsweek, Time-Life, International Herald-Tribune, Los Angeles Times, MacUser, Computer Shopper, Computer Currents, and Continental Magazine, to name a few. He's been profiled in Business Week, the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Rolling Stone. He has been a featured guest on The Larry King Show, PBS's All Things Considered and Entertainment Tonight as well as other national television and radio shows.
John has authored many books on computer technology, including Dvorak's Guide to PC Telecommunications, Dvorak's Buyer's Guide (updated yearly), and Dvorak Predicts: An Insider's Look at the Computer Industry.
